We understand the importance of sleeping on a non-metallic bed frame. We are currently looking for an all wood platform to support our natural latex mattress. All of the platforms we have looked at are held together with metal fasteners (screws, etc.). Are the metal fasteners an EMF issue or are they acceptable?

Hi Goodenough2. Just saw your post. I'm guessing you're worried about the metal in the bed being an antenna and re-radiating EMF's? Really, there's a bit of a urban myth about this part... Generally speaking, an antenna must have metal features about the same size of the wavelength of the radiation in question. Remember the old TV antennas on top of people's houses? They had metal bars that were various lengths, but all about several feet long... the reason for this was that that's about how long radio waves are that the TV broadcasts were. Modern EMF's from cell phones & Wi-Fi are all in the GHz range, meaning they all have wavelengths around a millimeter or so. Thus, you'd need very small features to act as antennae for EMF's... so I wouldn't worry about your bed. Probably, the EMF's coming straight from the air to *you* would be much worse than any part of your bed re-radiating! I think it's well more worth your time to invest in some good EMF paint or a canopy and totally block out the EMF's from your sleeping quarters. That way, you won't have to worry about subtle antenna effects... Cheers, -Joseph
